Workshop 22: Mission Discussion and Execution

In this session, we cover the following topics:

  • Discussion on upcoming mission,
  • Commander, lead and wingman’s expectations,
  • Assessment and course completion expectations.

Operation “HotTub”, AWAC 30Mhz callsign “Chlorine”

  • Task: Active combat engagement and troop support
  • Description: Due to advancing enemy troops from the North our friendly ground forces are requesting Close Air Support in the area. In some cases, you may be asked to release munitions danger close to forces. Situational awareness, precision, and adaptable thinking are required.
  • Advisories:
    • Make sure SRS and DCS are up to date, before the mission.
    • Before flight, coordinate with your flight lead weapon loadout, confirm weather, TAD group ID, radio frequency w/radio check, and recommended formation spacing.
    • Pro Tips:
      • Create three flight plans: Ingress, AoE, Egress
      • Taxi lights on when ready to taxi; lights out after leaving the airport area.
    • RoE is RTL (Restricted Target List) Only
    • Minimize Friendly Fire and minimize friendly civilian/buildings and vehicle casualties.
    • Remember to D3A (Decide, Detect, Deliver, Assess)
    • After “detect”, contact C2 (Command and Control) for engagement permission.
  • Special Conditions:
    • Flight Lead: Contact AWAC when ready to taxi
    • Flight Lead: Contact AWAC to confirm targets
    • Due to current weather conditions in the area and over target sites it is recommended not to release weapons close to min or max ranges.
    • To reduce the possibility of surrounding MANPAD/SAM engagement, follow ingress and egress waypoints.
    • Maintain altitude or expect small arms fire
    • Use extreme caution due to terrain and do not cross North of the 42.5 parallel.
